Description

Two Kodiak bear sows were utilizing a small body of water in Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge to fish for salmon in order to feed themselves and their cubs.
One sow ventured too close to the other causing a fight ensued. The two bears thrashed through the water for several minutes before one surrendered and left the lake with her cubs. Kodiak bears are not territorial, but they will fight to defend their food resources and their cubs.
